If you’re planning an international trip with children, you’ll need to make sure they have a valid U.S. passport. American children 15 years old or younger need a U.S. child’s passport to travel internationally. Parents or legal guardians must apply for the passport for them. Every five years, you’ll need to apply for a new passport until they’re old enough to apply for an adult passport.

You’ll need to provide one of the following to show the child's relationship to the parent(s) or legal guardian(s):

Note: If the name on your ID doesn’t match the name on your citizenship document or application, you'll need to provide a copy of a legal name change. If your state ID was issued less than six months ago, you’ll need fill out the supplemental questionnaire form and provide five additional secondary forms of ID.
